LIQUID SUN

The snake / has slithered into dog-town
(The shark-bite Capitol of the world)
A single, bouncing calorie
trapped in the exposed nest

The stone becomes an oven;
he drills thousands of holes
into this dead oak tree.
She struggles to shade them,
but they’ve now outgrown
her five-foot wings.

Their digestive organs disintegrate
To make room for millions of sperm.
These are some of the richest waters on earth:
Home to 30 million people.
But the animals know better.
